DOJO ETIQUETTE & RULES

You will be expected to know and respect these guidelines.

  1. Safety always comes first. Take care of yourself and fellow students. Always be aware of your surroundings.
  2. Always bow going in and out of the Dojo. This also means other Dojos you may be visiting.
  3. Always show the utmost respect towards each other, visitors and instructors.
  4. Never ask a Black Belt to spar. This is considered disrespectful and a challenge of that Sensei’s ability. This does not apply if a Black Belt is asked to spar with another Black Belt.
  5. Never interrupt a Black Belt when he/she is speaking to someone else. Instead, make your presence known and wait until you are addressed.
  6. No person shall teach any person or group, in any respect, UNLESS their Sensei has given that person written permission.
  7. No member shall portray a non-professional attitude through actions, attitude, or verbal words while engaged in the Martial arts.
  8. Personal hygiene is important. Keep fingernails and toenails clean and cut short.
  9. Do not wear any jewelry. If you have braces on your teeth we encourage you to use a mouth guard.
  10. Always be punctual and don’t miss lessons. Come to class at least 10 minutes early to help set up or clean mats.
  11. Be dressed and ready to start on time. If you are late and class has already started, wait off the mat until the Sensei indicates by bowing to you to enter the mat.
  12. Always keep our mats clean.
  13. Do not walk on the mats with shoes on. Shoes or sandals must be worn when walking around off the mat.
  14. Students and spectators should not talk or cause a distraction during class.
  15. Parents should not coach their children from the sidelines or interfere with the instructor, coach or class. Any questions or concerns can be addressed before or after class.
